CATEGORIES, NOMINATIONS AND VOTING PROCESS

Introduction:

The Jazz FM Awards reflect the excitement of the contemporary jazz scene and the spirit of Jazz FM, one of biggest jazz radio stations in the world.

The Awards are intended to celebrate the truly eclectic mix of Jazz, Blues and Soul played and supported by the station – Mainstream, Straight-Ahead, Smooth, Fusion, Funky, Traditional and Big Band.

An international panel of nominators put forward nominees in each award category for consideration by a panel of jurors consisting of Serious, Jazz FM and others. The winners are decided by the panel or by public vote and are announced at the awards ceremony in April. Further awards categories are in the gift of Jazz FM and Serious.

All the nominators and jurors are chosen for the expertise and experience in various fields of jazz, soul and blues.

The nominations panel is drawn from across the UK and international jazz, blues and soul scenes and selected from jazz festivals, promoters, broadcasters, record labels and journalists.

The judging panel consists of no less than six and no more than ten figures from Jazz FM, Serious and other key figures in the music sector, with the addition of a chair who has a casting vote in the event of deadlock.
